49erFX Open Series Lake Garda 2025: Rossi/Alberti win on countback after a dramatic final day
The 49erFX Open Series 2025 closed today in Campione del Garda with four final races sailed in classic Lake Garda style. The southerly Ora delivered a steady 10–12 knots despite overcast skies, allowing the fleet to complete 16 racesoverall.
After an intense, seesaw battle, Italy’s Lorenzo Rossi / Marco Alberti (ITA 346) clinched the overall victory on countback, finishing tied on points with Switzerland but taking the title thanks to more race wins—including a decisive string of bullets across the closing stages.
Switzerland’s Simon Mille / Theo Kowalewsky (SUI 515, CVE / ZYC) take second overall, level on 44 net points, while Alessio / Walter Bonizzoni (ITA 434, Società Canottieri Garda Salò) secure third with 45 net points, sealing an all-Italian flavor to the podium’s top and bottom steps.
In the women’s ranking, Hungary’s Boróka Fehér / Szonja Fehér (HUN 11) surged on the final day to overtake both Irish crews—Lauren O’Callaghan / Charlotte Eadie (IRL 206) and Lucia Cullen / Alana Twomey—and claim the top women’s spot.
