Formula 18 Catamarans Return to Campione del Garda: Univela Hosts an International Regatta

The crystal-clear waters of Lake Garda are set to welcome one of the most spectacular sailing classes in the world: Formula 18. On 26–27 July 2025, the modern watersports centre Univela Sailing will host a national regatta open to international teams, promising adrenaline, technical skill and speed in one of Europe’s most iconic sailing locations.

What is Formula 18?

The Formula 18 (F18) is a high-performance catamaran class that combines power, lightness and cutting-edge design. Measuring 5.52 meters in length and equipped with trapezes for both crew members, these boats can fly over the water, delivering breathtaking racing experiences. The class rules allow for design freedom within strict measurement limits, ensuring competitive balance and exciting regattas.

Recognized worldwide for its strong fleets and accessible high-level competition, the F18 class is a renowned breeding ground for talent—many sailors who have competed in this class have gone on to the Olympic Games and the America’s Cup.

From Formula 18 to the Olympics and Beyond

Formula 18 was the proving ground for Ruggero Tita, double Olympic gold medalist in Nacra 17 (Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024), and Vittorio Bissaro, Nacra 17 world champion, 5th at the Rio 2016 Olympics and now flight controller for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the America’s Cup. Their experience in the F18 class played a key role in their journey to the top of international sailing.
