Unbeaten Türkiye lead final four into Optimist European Team Racing Championship decider

Spain face Italy and Türkiye meet Poland in tomorrow’s best-of-three semi-finals after the Gold and Silver fleet round robins conclude in Campione del Garda.

Campione del Garda, 16 October – Türkiye remain the team to beat heading into the final day of the Optimist European Team Racing Championship, after winning every match they sailed on day three.

The Gold and Silver fleet round robins concluded today, confirming the four teams that will contest tomorrow’s semi-finals. Türkiye finish this stage in first place, followed by Spain, Italy and Poland.

Spain, Italy and Poland are level on points, with each recording two defeats today. Their closely matched results set up a competitive final day, with all four remaining teams in contention for the European title.

Türkiye maintain momentum as challengers stay close

An unbeaten day keeps Türkiye at the top of the standings as the championship moves from round-robin racing into the knockout stage.

Behind the leaders, Spain, Italy and Poland finish second, third and fourth respectively. With the three teams tied on points, there is little to separate the challengers heading into the decisive matches.

Italy’s Matteo Faraoni, Marta Pisoni, Annalie Meoni and Filippo Nardocci keep the host nation in the title contest and will face Spain for a place in the final.

Best-of-three semi-finals to decide the finalists

Tomorrow’s semi-final pairings are:

  • Spain vs Italy
  • Türkiye vs Poland

Each semi-final will be contested as a best-of-three series, with the first team to secure two wins advancing to the final for the European title.

Greece finish the round-robin stage in fifth place, followed by Switzerland in sixth, France in seventh and Croatia in eighth.

Sweden occupy ninth place ahead of Germany in tenth. Portugal are 11th, followed by Hungary, Slovenia, Denmark, the Netherlands and Great Britain.
