WORLD SAILING CHAMPIONS COMPETE ON LAKE GARDA: GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE LOMBARDIA EUROSAF ETF26 FOIL EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Campione del Garda hosted from 10 to 13 June 2026 one of Europe's most important foiling regattas, with the participation of Olympic athletes and world champions on board the ETF26 – the flying catamarans at the heart of the international Eurosaf circuit.
Four Days of World-Class Sailing on Lake Garda
Lake Garda once again provided the backdrop for a sailing spectacle at the highest level. From 10 to 13 June 2026, the waters off Campione del Garda hosted the Lombardia Eurosaf ETF26 Foil European Championship, an event part of the Lombardia FOILGP circuit, organised under the aegis of the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) and Eurosaf (European Sailing Federation).
The competition featured 15 races over four days of racing and delivered an extraordinary level of technical excellence, thanks to international crews from France, Belgium, Sweden, Canada, New Zealand and Australia, as well as the participation of Nacra 17 World Champion Maelle Frascari.
The event was made possible through the valuable contribution of Regione Lombardia and the patronage of the Province of Brescia and the Municipality of Tignale, as well as the support of the Pro Loco di Tremosine, confirming the important territorial value that this event brings to the entire Brescian shore of Lake Garda.
World Champions in Campione del Garda
The level of the fleet made this edition of the ETF26 European Championship an absolute showcase of excellence in the international sailing world. Among the participants were some of the most decorated sailors on the planet.
- Maelle Frascari, now part of Team K-Challenge in preparation for the next America's Cup in Naples: absolute world champion in the mixed foiling catamaran Nacra 17 in 2019, a title won in New Zealand alongside Italian crew member Vittorio Bissaro.
- Erwan Fischer and Clément Pequin: reigning world champions in the 49er, the Olympic men's skiff class. The team has significant international victories to their name, including the Semaine de Palma and Kieler Woche.
- Tim Mourniac: Nacra 15 World Champion in 2016, currently in Olympic preparation for Los Angeles 2028 in the Nacra 17.

Univela and Campione del Garda: A Venue of Excellence
The event was organised with the support of Univela Sailing SSDARL, the sailing centre in Campione del Garda that has long been a reference point for competitive and training sailing on Lake Garda. Univela's facilities – including the sailing school, accommodation and the Terraferma restaurant – ensured the perfect logistical success of the event, confirming Campione del Garda's vocation as a natural stage for top-level international sailing.
Lake Garda, with its stable and predictable thermal winds, provided ideal conditions for the ETF26 foiling catamarans, allowing all scheduled races to be completed as planned.
The ETF26 Series Circuit
The ETF26 are foiling racing catamarans designed as a stepping stone towards the America's Cup and the international foiling sailing circuit. The ETF26 Series circuit and the Eurosaf pathway represent the ideal platform for young crews and athletes preparing for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the America's Cup, as confirmed by the presence of world-class athletes in the race fleet.
The Lombardia FOILGP, of which this European Championship is an integral part, represents Regione Lombardia's commitment to promoting high-level sailing on its territory, leveraging the natural heritage of Lake Garda as a venue for major international sporting events.
