A-Cat Foiling Clinic with Tymoteusz Bendyk
5–7 April 2027 – Campione del Garda
From 5 to 7 April 2027, Campione del Garda will host three days of intensive training for sailors looking to refine their foiling A-Cat technique. As sailing techniques and boat setups evolve, the aim is no longer simply to take off, but to achieve more stable, efficient and sustained flight, including through transitions and manoeuvres. Tymoteusz “Tymek” Bendyk will coach a limited group of sailors, focusing on speed, control and tuning in Garda conditions as preparation for the 2027 racing season.
Third at the 2019 A-Class World Championship in Weymouth, Tymek has won several national titles in the A-Cat, F18, Nacra 17 and 49er classes. His collaboration with Exploder and Bryt Sails keeps him closely involved in the development of platforms, sails and technical solutions. His experience as an official A-Class and F18 measurer and with the Polish National Sailing Team contributes to a comprehensive approach combining boat handling, tactics, strategy, tuning and physical preparation.
Technical focus
- Starts and mark roundings: speed management, positioning and choosing effective approaches and exits.
- Boat handling in light and strong winds, adapting technique and setup to the conditions.
- Upwind displacement and foiling modes: choosing the most effective mode, taking off and sustaining flight.
- Downwind foiling: coordinating course, boat trim and sail trim to improve speed, control and safety.
- Tacks and gybes: progressing towards smoother foiling manoeuvres with less loss of speed and ride height.
- Fine-tuning rudder rake, daggerboard rake, sail trim and control systems.
- Analysing the relationship between speed, stability and VMG to turn technical improvements into race performance.
- Managing physical workload and developing effective training routines.
On-water sessions will be supported by footage from the coach boat and onboard cameras, GPS tracking and detailed debriefs ashore. The programme will include a comprehensive review of boat setup, with particular attention to rudders, daggerboards, systems and control lines. Sailors will be able to compare solutions, test adjustments on the water and assess their effects on control, sustained flight and performance.
